Kunming, China, October 16, 2018

Kunming Biomed International (KBI) has developed and characterized a large cohort of diabetic chronic kidney disease (CKD) monkeys using quantitative clinical laboratory indicators that were validated against the histopathological severity grading for DKD. Type 2 diabetic animals with fasting blood glucose (FBG) >150 mg/dL and HbA1c >6% were screened from over 1,500 male cynomolgus monkeys on HFD for >1.5 years.  The cynomolgus monkey DKD model, which resembles the disease characteristics in man, can be regarded as one of the most clinically relevant models for the efficacy evaluation of new therapeutic modalities for CKD.

KBI will present the data at the upcoming American Society of Nephrology Kidney Week 2018 Annual Meeting in San Diego, California, from 23rd to 28th of October 2018.  The abstract # 3018731, "Characterization and Establishment of Non-Human Primate Models of Diabetic Chronic Kidney Disease", will be available on the ASN website from the 5th October 2018 and published in the ASN’s 2018 Abstract Supplement.

Join KBI and more than 13,000 other kidney professionals from across the globe at the world’s premier nephrology meeting to be held at the San Diego Convention Center.
